VOLLEYBALL TEAM HITS THE ROAD LOOKING FOR A CHANGE OF FORTUNES

RICHMOND, Ky. - The Eastern Kentucky University volleyball team will travel to Austin Peay and Tennessee State this weekend, looking to turn things around. The Colonels will invade Austin Peay on Friday for an 8:00 p.m. EST match and then travel to nearby Nashville to take on the Lady Tigers of Tennessee State on Saturday. First serve is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. EST.

"Austin Peay is 4-2," said Eastern head coach Lori Duncan. "They are not the best team in the league, but they will do a lot of things well and we will need to adjust to them. Tennessee State is a team we beat last year. If we all come together at the same time, it will be interesting."

Duncan and her squad will be searching for their first win of the 1998 season. The Colonels opened Ohio Valley Conference play last weekend at home, only to drop both matches in three straight sets. EKU lost to Eastern Illinois by scores of 4-15, 8-15 and 4-15. The Colonels then dropped three games to Southeast Missouri, 5-15, 2-15 and 5-15. The two losses dropped Eastern Kentucky to 0-7 overall and 0-2 in the OVC.

"We gave the team yesterday (Monday) off," said Duncan. "We hope to have three good days of practice before we hit the road to play Peay and State.

"We are going to get better," continued Duncan. "How quickly we get better will depend on our middle blockers. As they progress, the team will get better.

"Our left side and outside hitters are good. (Freshman setter Sharon) Moreno will continue to get better. We need to set more consistent blocks. It won't happen overnight, but I think we will continue to get better."
