COLONEL VOLLEYBALL TEAM PREPARES FOR LOUISVILLE

RICHMOND, Ky. - The Eastern Kentucky University volleyball team will travel to the University of Louisville to take on the Cardinals Sunday. The match is scheduled to begin at 2:00 PM.

"I think what we need to do against Louisville is exactly what Tennessee State did against us," said EKU head coach Lori Duncan. "Louisville plays at a certain tempo. We cannot even begin to play at that tempo. If we try to play at their tempo, they will beat us faster than we can turn around. But if we can do to them what Tennessee State was trying to do to us, which was have us play at their tempo. We play our tempo better than anyone in the world. Louisville does not play our tempo as well as we do. It's the old adage of you can't play down to another team's level, because then that team has the advantage."

Eastern will enter the match on Sunday with a 3-20 overall record and a 3-13 record in the Ohio Valley Conference. The Colonels are coming off a win over Tennessee State last Friday (15-2, 15-12, 15-9), sandwiched between losses to Morehead State last Tuesday (15-12, 9-15, 12-15, 2-15) and Austin Peay on Saturday (15-3, 15-4, 15-7).

"A win is a win, but as a coach, I thought we should have beaten Tennessee State even worse," continued Duncan. "The score of the first game was 15-2 and I thought that should have been reflective of the rest of the scores. But as a young team, we do the things that young teams do, and that is let people play with you.

"We turned around the next day, playing Austin Peay, and we did not get after it. We don't have the kind of leadership yet. Somebody has got to start looking someone in the eye and say 'hey, let's go'.

"This week in practice, I have been like a pitbull. I have been very confrontive and I have not given them much room to breath...I'm not giving them a chance to make an excuse. It'll be interesting to see how that pays off."

The Colonels will finish out the season on November 13 and 14, playing on the road at Tennessee Tech and Middle Tennessee, respectively.
