RICHMOND, Ky. - Eastern Kentucky University volleyball head coach Lori Duncan has announced that Laurie Anderson from Schaumburg, IL, and Courtney Huyser from Batavia, IL, will play volleyball for the Colonels this fall.
"Both are freshmen and both are new to me; meaning, they don't really know me," said Duncan. "Both should get plenty of playing time, if they stay healthy.
"Illinois is a great area to recruit. The clubs are well developed and teach great technical skill."
Anderson is a recent graduate of John Hersey High School.
"Laurie will play outside hitter for us," said Duncan. "She is a great athlete with great jumping ability. She will need to get stronger. She is deaf, which has created challenges her whole life. With that, comes a bond. It will force us all to communicate better on the court."
Huyser graduated from Batavia High School in the spring.
"Huyser will play middle blocker for us this year," said Duncan. "That is an area that we struggle. She has a tremendous opportunity that most don't get. Most incoming freshmen have to sit, watch someone ahead of them and wait for their opportunity. She'll have a big opportunity right off the bat."
Eastern will open its regular season with a home match against the University
of Evansville on September 1. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
