BOWEN, GALATI RECEIVE RECOGNITION ON ALL-CONFERENCE TEAMS

RICHMOND, Ky. - Eastern Kentucky University junior outside hitter Courtney Bowen and freshman outside hitter Becky Galati recently received recognition on the All-Ohio Valley Conference teams for 1999.

Bowen, a 5-11 junior from Orange County, CA, was named second-team All-OVC, while Galati, a 5-10 freshman from Pittsburgh, PA, was chosen to the All-OVC Newcomer Team for 1999.

Bowen led the Colonels with 445 kills and was second on the team in hitting percentage (.204) and digs (371).

"Since Courtney has been at Eastern (two years), she has distinguished herself as a great hitter," said EKU second-year head volleyball coach Lori Duncan. "As we establish a more balanced attack in 2000, Courtney should have an even better senior year. Even though teams this season keyed their defenses toward Courtney, she still was able to have an outstanding hitting percentage."

Galati was second to Bowen for the team lead in kills with 363 and led the Colonels in digs with 395.

"Becky became a much better player as the year went on," said Duncan. "She finished the year as a very smart player as she was able to mix up her attack better as the year ended. She is going to do some great things in this conference for the next three years. She is going to be one fantastic player for us."

Eastern, who won five of its last nine matches, finished with a 13-19 overall record and in sixth place with an 8-10 OVC mark. The Colonels were eliminated in the first round of the OVC Tournament by Austin Peay, 3-1.
