COLONEL VOLLEYBALL TEAM GOES ON THE ROAD
RICHMOND, Ky. - Eastern Kentucky University's women's volleyball team continues Ohio Valley Conference action by traveling to UT Martin Friday night and Murray State Saturday afternoon.
Eastern hosted two conference squads this past weekend, falling to Southeast Missouri 0-3 (10-15, 5-15, 3-15) and to Eastern Illinois 1-3 (6-15,15-13,14-16, 6-15). EKU fell to 10-16 overall and 5-8 in the OVC following these losses.
Eastern head coach Lori Duncan said that her team was not ready to go up against top-ranked SEMO, "We, as a team, did not truly believe that we were capable of beating the best. SEMO is the best team in the conference, and we would have had to put up a big fight to have stayed in it," Duncan said.
Duncan was, however, pleased with the fact that Eastern held SEMO to an .088 hitting percentage in game one of the match
"As the match went on, SEMO's hitting percentage went up and ours went down. The girls did not firmly believe that they could do it," she concluded.
The Colonels then competed against Eastern Illinois the following day.
"This was a match we most definitely could have won. However, as a young team, we are still trying to find where we are," Duncan said.
Eastern closes the 1999 regular season next week with home matches against Morehead State Tuesday, Tennessee State Friday and Austin Peay Saturday in McBrayer Arena.
