EASTERN HOSTS TWO OVC TEAMS THIS WEEKEND

RICHMOND, Ky. - Eastern Kentucky's women's volleyball team hosts two Ohio Valley Conference squads this weekend when league-leading Southeast Missouri comes to McBrayer Arena for a 2:00 p.m. match Saturday and Eastern Illinois visits for a 1:00 p.m. contest Sunday.

In a trio of road matches last week, EKU came away with two victories to move to 10-14 overall and 5-6 in the OVC. The Colonels fell to Austin Peay (12-15, 4-15, 8-15), but defeated both Tennessee State (15-6,15-10,15-1) and Morehead State (17-15,19-17,15-10).

For the week, junior co-captain and outside hitter Courtney Bowen led the team with 65 kills, including back-to-back 16-kill efforts at Austin Peay and Tennessee State and a 23-kill night against Morehead State.

EKU head coach Lori Duncan was pleased with the Colonels' effort on the road this past week

"We have had some interesting games thus far, but I am glad to say that we have a good road win under our belts. Not only were we striving for a road win, but a win in three matches. It has been difficult for this young team to win on the road, but I felt as if the team made a major accomplishment this week," Duncan said.

Duncan was especially pleased with the match at Morehead State.

"Playing in that contest was a must-win situation. We needed that match. The girls went out, played hard and were able to do it in three," Duncan said.
