COLONEL VOLLEYBALL PLAYERS SWEEP CONFERENCE HONORS

RICHMOND, Ky. - Eastern Kentucky University volleyball players - Courtney Bowen, Kristen Campbell and Becky Galati - swept Ohio Valley Conference honors for their efforts in last week's victories over Belmont, Tennessee Tech and Middle Tennessee.

Bowen, a 5-10 outside hitter from Orange County, CA, was named OVC Offensive Player of the Week. She averaged 6.17 kills per game, leading the Colonels in kills in all three contests, including recording career-highs of 27 kills and 68 attacks in Eastern's five-game win over Tennessee Tech.

In Eastern's win over Belmont, Bowen hit a season-high .405 with 22 kills. She also collected 4.00 digs and 0.2 blocks per game for the week.

Campbell, a 6-0 middle blocker from Austin, TX, was named OVC Defensive Player of the Week. She had 13 blocks and seven digs in the three wins, averaging 1.08 blocks and 0.58 digs per game. She also provided some offense, hitting better than .333 in all three outings.

In the Colonels' victory against Middle Tennessee, she recorded a career-high three solo blocks and added a pair of block assists.

Galati, a 5-10 outside hitter from Pittsburgh, PA, was named OVC Freshman of the Week. She reached double figures in kills twice and digs three times with her best effort coming against MTSU where she recorded career highs of 21 kills, three service aces and 21 digs.

For the three-game stretch, Galati hit .208 and averaged 4.0 kills and 4.42 digs.

"These were great honors for these three players and they were certainly deserving of this type of recognition," said EKU volleyball coach Lori Duncan.

Eastern, 8-12 overall, continues its 1999 season with an Oct. 19 match at Evansville.
