COLONEL VOLLEYBALL TEAM HOSTS MOREHEAD STATE TUESDAY

RICHMOND, Ky. - The Eastern Kentucky University women's volleyball team will host Morehead State University Tuesday night in McBrayer Arena at 7:00 p.m. as it tries to break the Ohio Valley Conference attendance record for a volleyball match.

EKU was able to split its road contests last weekend at UT Martin and Murray State. At UT Martin, Eastern won that match in three games, 3-0 (15-11,15-9,15-9). EKU head coach Lori Duncan said it was the best performance the team has had on the road all season.

"There is no doubt in my mind that this was our best 'on the road performance' to date. The team played both smart and hard, which meant it played well, " Duncan said.

Duncan said that the Colonels played so well that she felt that it was never in jeopardy of losing the match. However, less than 24 hours later, the tables turned for Eastern. The following day, Murray State defeated Eastern, winning the match in three, quick games (8-15, 4-15, 2-15).

Duncan feels as if this performance illustrated some of the inconsistency this young team has been dealing with all season.

"As a whole team, this match was our worst performance on the road to date. We went through the inconsistency that the team has to overcome with only three games left in the season," said Duncan.

The Colonels have three home games left, with the need for two victories to secure a spot for Eastern in next week's Ohio Valley Conference Tournament. Duncan is pleased with the team's development throughout this season.

"Now, at the end of the season, I feel as if we have something to play for this last week," said Duncan.

Following Morehead State in to McBrayer Arena to close regular season's action will be Tennessee State Friday at 7:00 p.m. and Austin Peay Saturday at 2:00 p.m.

Eastern stands 11-17 overall and 6-9 in conference play, one-half game out of sixth place in the current OVC standings.
