Kris Petersen, former women's volleyball coach at Union College in Barbourville, joined the staff of Lori Duncan in late July of 1999.  A 1995 graduate of Lindenwood University in St. Charles, MO, where he played four years for the men's club team and volunteered as an assistant coach for two seasons with the women's team, Petersen spent last season as head coach at Union where he directed that team to a 9-13 season and a mid-season ranking of 10th in the NAIA Mid-South Region.

While having to recruit an entire team in one summer, Petersen started a fund-raising program at Union and was able to increase attendance at home volleyball matches.  He was responsible for promotions, public relations, fund raising, equipment management, recruiting, on-court coaching, team travel, risk management and budget management.

He was also the girls’ 18-and-under head volleyball coach for the 1995 to 1996 season for the St. Louis Juniors Volleyball Club and was an assistant with that same club team the previous year.
Other coaching opportunities for Petersen included a stint in 1998 as a volunteer assistant coach with the Southwest Missouri State University women’s team and a position as freshman girls’ volleyball coach at Central High School in Springfield, MO, in 1997.

Receiving his masters of science degree in health promotion and wellness management from Southwest Missouri State University in 1998, Petersen, 27, is married to the former Rebecca Shepherd of Nashville, TN and they have an infant son named Braden.
