was named Eastern's second-ever head volleyball coach. Duncan spent
the five previous seasons as the head volleyball coach at Indiana University
of Pennsylvania. She compiled a record of 29-100 during those five
seasons.
Although she is just in her second year as Eastern's volleyball coach, Duncan is no stranger to Richmond or EKU. In 1980, Duncan began her collegiate playing career at Eastern, learning under former Colonel head coach Geri Polvino. During her four-year collegiate career, Duncan was part of three of EKU's seven consecutive Ohio Valley Conference championship teams. While at Eastern, Duncan was a four-time All-OVC selection (1980-83), All-OVC Tournament selection (1983) and was an AIAW All-Region choice in 1980, while playing outside hitter. She was also chosen as EKU Female Athlete of the Year in 1984 and won team awards her senior season for Best All-Around Player and Best Defensive Player. Duncan's first-head coaching appointment came at The Pennsylvania State University at McKeesport where she served as men's and women's head volleyball coach, student activities director for PSUM and as an instructor in physical education and recreation from 1988-92. While at PSUM she compiled a 78-14 record with the women's team. Her best season there was the 1991-92 year that saw her team win the Penn State Commonwealth Athletic Conference championship. PSUM also won the Western Division championship of the CCAC in 1991 and 1992. After last season's rebuilding year at EKU which resulted in a 3-23 record, Duncan's overall collegiate coaching record now stands 110-137. She also has several years experience working with Junior Olympic Volleyball teams and with summer volleyball camps. She was Junior Olympic Volleyball Coach for the 16 Elite Golden Triangles of Pittsburgh, PA, who had a 59-23 mark and finished ranked 47th in the nation in 1994-95 at the U.S. Junior Nationals. Duncan also served as Junior Olympic Volleyball Program Executive and Director of Coaching for the 18 Elite Team (ranked 25th in the nation, a first for any East Coast Club), the Nike Steel City Juniors of Pittsburgh in 1995-96, who went 78-16 that season. She has led her Junior Olympic Volleyball teams to the East Coast championship three years and has coached 10 athletes among these different teams who have furthered their education at such Division I schools as Penn State, Ohio State, Arkansas, North Carolina State, Kent, Loyola (MD) and EKU. Duncan's overall Junior Olympic coaching record is a sparkling 226-66 (.773). She is also the founder and has been the Executive Director for the past seven years of the "Lo Knows Volleyball" summer camps in Pittsburgh. Duncan received her bachelors of science degree in recreation and park administration with a minor in physical education from EKU in 1984. She later completed two masters degrees at Eastern - in physical education in 1986 and in student personnel services in 1987. |
